About Me

My name is Anissa Cordova, I grew up in California, about an hour south of San Francisco.

I went to college on the central coast in San Luis Obispo and graduate school in San Diego.

While in college I began to lead bicycling and hiking tours in the western US and Canada for a company based in Denver, CO and I fell in love with so many places, but particularly the state of Colorado.

The first moment I could move here was on Valentine’s Day in 2001. I have lived in and been in love with Colorado ever since.

I have always loved exploring the world through conversation and I have always loved helping people.

As a young person I had people in my life with chronic health conditions and I started to notice there is a huge relationship between physical and emotional wellness.

As I got older I discovered I am able to sit and be present in the presence of intense emotional pain and manage to be helpful. I consider myself an enormously lucky person to be able to do this kind of work.

My approach to therapy:

I believe my work in both psychotherapy and coaching is a reflection of the many opportunities for growth and transformation that surround us, if we choose to see them.

My approach is:

Holistic: Your body, heart, mind, and spirit are all equally important aspects of being human. My work invites each and supports their integration.

Collaborative: I see the relationship between you and me as a partnership with shared motivations and goals. We co-create together.Individually Tailored: You are a complex, highly individual being with a unique life experience. I meet you where you are, and from there, allow a clear direction and process to emerge in order to address your individual needs.

Mindfulness-based: Change and transformation occur through understanding and insight, through shifts in your experience and perception. I encourage you to explore the here-and-now, to dive deep into emotions, to increase familiarity with these states, and to link them with cognitive ways of knowing.

Non-pathologizing: Your symptoms and life struggles are not problems to be fixed or eradicated, but rather important conveyors of useful information and knowledge that can be garnered for growth and well-being.

Empowering: You have a set of strengths, resources, personal “gifts,” or capacities. You will find your unique way to remain resilient, to cope with obstacles, setbacks, and real disappointments. Our work together builds on what you already have to create and maintain momentum for growth.

Therapy & Coaching with me doesn’t feel like therapy, per se, but just like a regular conversation. I have a deep respect for all emotions that come up and I like to find a way to make each individual feel safe in our conversations.

What I like to do for fun:

I like to paint without much skill, I love to socialize over a walk or hike, and I like to take every opportunity to enjoy nature. One of my favorite things is my yoga practice I started in 1997.

The pandemic turned me into a true crime documentary watcher–I never watched them before and now I’m hooked.

I spent my first 40 years thinking not so nice things about small dogs and then I ended up adopting a dog I could pick up with one hand. Now I have one dog for each hand.

Quotes I find inspiring:

“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.” Jon Kabat-Zinn

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.” Viktor Frankl

“Integrity is choosing courage over comfort, choosing what is right over what is fun, fast, or easy; and choosing to practice our values rather than simply professing them.” Brene Brown

“We can choose courage, or we can choose comfort, but we can’t have both. Not at the same time.” Brene Brown

“In a society that says, ‘Put yourself last,’ self-love and self-acceptance are revolutionary.” Brene Brown

“Want to be happy? Stop trying to be perfect.” Brene Brown
